Top Five: Blacks

Like a bad penny it keeps coming back. From solid blocks of colour and inverse half moons to chequer board effects and fine typography; Black nail polish has been seen everywhere this season. I personally (and I can almost hear my Mother groaning when I say this) am a big fan of black polish, the blacker the better in my mind - although I am partial to a little metallic infusion from time to time...

Here are my Top Five Black Nail Polishes to see you through the rest of the season.

Union Jack Black from ButterLONDON (3-free)

The ultimate dominatrix black. Think PVC, think stilettos, think... You get the picture. This polish is hardcore and the opaque, glossy finish will leave you begging for more.

£12.00 from CutECOsmetics
Black Tartan from Scotch Naturals (3-free / Water-based)

An opaque gunmetal black that has microscopic silver glitter particles for understated glitz. Being a water-based polish you do need a base coat and top coat to get the full effect, but if you have the patience (and time) for that then it is well worth a punt.

£14.00 from Fresh Indulgence

Hollywood & Vine Starlet from NCLA (5-free)

The glitterazzi goes all out! A high impact silver flecked black, this is a pretty sheer polish and works best applied over a pure black for those wanting an opaque finish.

£12.50 from CutECOsmetics

Black from Mavala (5-free)

Sometimes simplicity is the best option. Black by Mavala is just that. Black. No sparkle, no shimmer and absolutely no white. Not only in true Mavala style does it go on and stay on, it is at a great price point - my go-back-to black.

£4.30 from Look Fantastic

Kohl from Kure Bazaar (5-free)

Made of wood pulp and potatoes (I kid you not), Khol is a gorgeously glossy, inky black with a super high shine. Made from 85% natural ingredients Khol was part of the Autumn/Winter 2013 collection and is certainly one that catches the eye!

£14.95 from Big Green Smile

I should really name this section of the blog my Top Six as I know there has been more than one occasion where I have snuck in a extra... Today is one of those days and I absolutely have to tell you about this little number.

Black Hollycock from Priti NYC

This polish is so special that it hasn't even been released yet but I had to share. Part of the forthcoming Black Hole collection, Black Hollycock is a black jelly polish (jelly refers to the translucent, thin jelly-like appearance on the nail) packed full of micro sized silver, multi-coloured and black glitter - just like stars in the galaxy. I can't wait to give this a go!

Release date: Late Winter 2014

  1. Kure Bazaar polishes are my favorite, though the Butter London Union Jack Black is also pretty good!
