Pantone: Colours of the Year 2016

For the first time in it's 16 year history, Pantone have for the first time chosen two shades to carry the accolade of being named PANTONE Colour of the Year 2016; Rose Quartz and Serenity...

A harmonious pairing of inviting shades that embody a mindset of tranquility and inner peace.

This is my fourth year of exploring colour in this way and although this may not be my favourite choice of shade(s) so far, it is a lovely break from tradition by introducing two shades. After a run of quite strong shades the warm pink of Rose Quartz and the cooler, tranquil Serenity bring a little softness to proceedings.

According to the colour gurus at Pantone, the pairing of Rose Quartz and Serenity brings calm and relaxation. Regardless of the finish (matte, metallic or glossy) or whether in a hard or soft material, the duo sit easily alongside other mid-tones such as rich browns, greens, purples as well as all shades of yellow and pink; they also work well if teamed with silver or hot bright shades.

Feel Pantone inspired with my Rose Quartz and Serenity make-up choices...

Top Row: RMS Beauty Eye Polish in Inspire (£19.00), Intense Nail Polish in The Shrimp (£14.95) Alima Pure Satin Matte Shadow in Cobalt (£9.80)

Middle Row: Vapour Beauty Mesmerize Eye Colour in Sugar (£17.00), Ilia Beauty Multi-stick in Tenderly (£30.00)

Bottom Row: Eye of Horus Goddess Eye Pencil in Lazuli (£10.00), Inika Organic Cream Eyeshadow in Pink Cloud (£18.00), Mavala Nail Polish in Cyclades Blue (£4.95)

Despite searching high and low, you can't imagine how hard it is to find a natural or organic blue lipstick!! (If you are just looking for a vegan one then I do suggest checking out Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics)

  1. These are not my favourite colours personally but love the challenge. Truly blue fruit and veg is hard to find too! When I wanted blue lipstick I ended up using eyeshadow and eyeliner.

    1. Hey Lynda, I agree with you on the colours - not my faves either. I always end up mixing and matching products to create the shade I need on shoots as its the only way to get what you really want.
