Behind The Brand: Lavera

Continuing my series on natural and organic brands, the spotlight today falls on multi-award winning cosmetics, haircare and skincare company Lavera. Considering they are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, it seems only apt.

Founded by Thomas Haase, Laverana GmbH began life in 1987, after more than 10 years in research and development. Today Lavera, Latin for the truth, employs around 240 people in the beautiful Deister mountains just outside Hanover, Germany and is sold in over 30 countries around the world.

Haase's own suffering of neurodermatitis, an uncommon skin condition and the unsatisfactory results of applying medicated preparations lead him to develop an interest in alternative skin care products. A few years later, Haase opened one of Germany's first organic health stores. In between running the store, Haase cultivated plants and, motivated by the use of chemicals and pesticides found in so many products, began to develop his own natural cosmetics to benefit his skin and in 1975 he formulated his first lip balm, made from just three simple ingredients.

From little acorns, today multi-award winning Lavera produce an enormous number of products; from skin and hair care, perfume, dental care, a baby and child range and of course, not forgetting the excellent Trend make-up collection.



Lavera products are produced using raw plant materials, mainly from certified organic agriculture. The products are completely free from synthetic perfumes, colourants and preservatives and are cruelty free. Many of the products are suitable for vegans and NATrue certified and 90% of them are BDIH certified (Association of German Industry and Trading Firms for Pharmaceuticals, health care products, food supplements and personal hygiene products), the exception being the hair care range.
