Top Five: White Eyes

It was big in the 1990's and now its back with avengeance this spring. White eye make-up is definitely one of those Marmite trends - you either love it or hate it. This season white it is most certainly back and so put aside your yeast extract-y breakfast spread feelings and take a look...

I will admit I was on the shelf a little with this one initially, maybe those days of culottes, Axel Rose style bandanas (yep, I had a bit of a crush back in the day), shell necklaces and tattoo chokers (not all at once I assure you - mostly) came flooding back just a little too fast.

Fashion faux pas aside, from the ethereal to the down right punk white is a versatile choice for this spring. The runways of Jenny Packham, Kenzo and Altuzarro were flooded with iridescent washes and graphic lines mixed with stark red lips and dewy, contoured complexions.

Re-live some of your best bits of the 1990's and try some of my top five (mostly matte) white eye products...

White Natural Kajal Eyeliner by Benecos

Like all Benecos pencils this White is thick and creamy and has great staying power. A staple of my kit, I use it to add highlight around the eye area and it is perfect for creating strong, powerful lines akin to the Kenzo shows. Fashions may come and go but Benecos pencils are at a great price point so staying on trend doesn't need to be as hard on your wallet

Confession Pro Matte Eyeshadow by Concrete Minerals

If you want a stark, pure (and not so innocent) white then this is it. I love the Pro Matte range of loose mineral shadows and Confession is the perfect addition to any pro kit. A pure matte white that is easy to apply and blend and, being as pure as the driven snow it is free from nasties such as talc and bismuth oxychloride.

White Crystal Eyeliner Pencil by Inika

Inika eyeliners were one of the first products in my kit and I still use them to this day. White Crystal is a lovely creamy matte white pencil that is formulated for sensitive eyes, it applies easily without drag or flaking and it has a super handy pencil sharpener to boot!

White Diamond Flora Eyeshadow by Zuii Organics

If you aren't one for making a statement and an ethereal glow is more your style, then this may just be the white for you. A soft and understated white without too strong a pigment, White Diamond is shot through with a hint of a shimmer. Zuii shadows are easy to blend and are pretty good at staying put too.

Elitist Mineral Shadow no.89 by W3ll People

A soft, white satin loose powder shadow, no.89 is a fab choice for those looking for a product with a little versatility. Wear as a light wash of colour across the lids for a soft, feminine look or build up the colour by mixing with a little water to create stronger, more defined lines.

    1. Hi Rachel, there are some great (and easy) ways to wear white eye make-up - depending on how brave you are feeling! You could try putting a light wash of white across the lid and combining with a bright lip or using a white eyeliner pencil just along the lash line as you would a black or brown one. A couple of ideas to get you started but if there are a few more requests I would put something together :)

  2. Great white picks! I love white as a sheer wash on the lid, with an orangey tomato red on the lips. Fashion from the 90's is one of my faves, including the tattoo chokers. ;)

    1. Hi Kath, thank you, I am glad you like my choices :) I am glad I wasn't the only one with that going on. I must admit 90's isn't may favourite era for fashion but there isn't really anything like a choker - although I generally favoured a strip of black velvet or lace with a press stud!
