Top Five: Organic Grey Eyeshadow

I have a bit of a love affair with grey eyeshadow. I love the way it looks on the skin, it's personality and its enduring style but most of all I love its versatility. Yes it's only an eyeshadow but it is in a league of its own in my eyes.

Perfect for creating a wash of colour, a softer interpretation of a smokey eye, a simple understated liner or even for dramatic contouring. Grey popped up all over the autumn/winter 2015/16 shows in many forms and featured in the Paul Smith and Phillip Plein shows.

Not wishing to leave out some favourites, I have broken this down into pressed and loose shadow line-ups (the latter will be published a some point in the near future) and for now have only focused on the organic formulations (there are some fabulous non-organics too but these are for [yet] another post), so without further ado, here are my Top Five organic grey pressed eyeshadows...

Greis Perle Irisé from Avril (€6.00)

I love the texture of the Avril shadows. Smooth and velvety they apply and blend like a dream and are a fantastic pocket money friendly option. Greis Perle is a pretty, light dove grey with a soft, almost iridescent finish that looks beautiful either on its own or blended with deeper shades.

Divine from Kjaer Weis (£31.00 / £16.00)

A classic neutral shade that is subtle and understated, in the words of Kirsten Kjaer Weis herself "Divine is a beautiful grey that will shade the eye and give the illusion of not wearing make-up". Don't let this fool you however, a little eye primer or perseverance and Divine can be built up to create depth and a much smokier finish.

Matt Anthracite Grey from Couleur Caramel (£11.00)

Couleur Caramel eyeshadow are a staple in my kit and have been for years. In the image Anthracite Grey looks slightly flat but It's a bit of a blank canvas in the respect that it is so easy to work into a make-up. It's matte (I'm figuring you've guessed that already) and so it is the perfect choice for anything from a strong and striking cut crease to a softer take on a cat eyed flick.

Chloe from Sappho Organics ($18.99)

Sappho shadows are a relatively recent addition to my kit but I am loving their texture and finish. Chloe is a beautiful satin pewter; a deep grey that looks beautiful on its own or worked with a black to create a smouldering smokey eye. It looks fabulous when applied with a damp brush as a liner too!

Pebble from Living Nature ($20.00 NZD / £12.00)

Pebble is a soft, flattering blue/grey with a semi-matte finish that gives it a cool elegance. A beautiful shade to wash over the lids, it can be blended with a darker tone for added highlight or used to add definition to a lighter eye make-up.
