Burts Bees Radiance Body Lotion

Thanks to the wonders of the internet, just click of a mouse and we have access to a massive array of natural beauty products from all corners of the globe. Add in expedite postage and a product can be on your doormat within less than 24 hours.

All this is great but what if you need something in the eleventh hour? On many an occasion I have made last minute (or en route) dashes to the high street to pick up a vital product that I may need for that or the next days shoot. Invariably this means that the products may not have been your first choice but they can be a pretty good substitute.

Burts Bees Radiance Body Lotion with Royal Jelly

Burt's Bees Radiance Body Lotion is a light reflecting moisturiser created to enhance the skin's natural glow. The mica content gives a beautiful softly shimmering sheen to the skin; imagine your skin bathed in moonlight - it's that sort of shimmer. The silvery sheen is long lasting and looks great on fairer skin tones - I have yet to try it on darker skinned models.

Putting the beautiful finish it give to one side, this is not a body lotion that you can slather on and then go; it does take time to settle on the skin so when using on a shoot then apply well ahead of any clothing to ensure no greasy marks (Stylists hate greasy marks!). There can be a slight residual stickiness on the skin after application, this does subside but it takes a good few minutes so again, apply in advance.

Formulated with nourishing Royal Jelly and sunflower oil, the body lotion is hydrating and suitable for all skin types. Royal Jelly is a highly nutritious secretion of the honey bee that is used to feed select lavae; it's nutrition count comes in at a whopping 134 which includes 7 Amino Acids, Vitamins B1, B2, B5, B6, C and E, along with Biotin, Niacin and Folic Acid. All in all it's pretty good stuff.

I really like this body lotion but it is not without its faults. The light reflecting qualities of this lotion is the prime reason I have purchased this cream - the scent is not. Whilst not particularly unpleasant, it is a synthetic scent and in no way reflects its origins. Once on the skin the majority does subside reasonably quickly however there is a definite residual trace to a sensitive nose.

A 175ml tube is good value for money and is priced at around £9.99. Available online or in store from Boots.

Founded in Maine, USA in the late 1980's, Burt's Bees started life as a candle making business established by artist Roxanne Quimby and beekeeper Burt Shavitz. By the early 1990's the company had increased its product range to include soaps and perfumes and by the end of the decade Burts Bees was offering over 100 products natural personal care products.
