Top Five: Purple Lips

OK. I am imagining that purple may not be everyones first pick when it comes to choosing a new lip colour and it certainly isn't for the feint hearted, however with both Rihanna and Lupita Nyongo seen rockin' shades that defiantely aren't for the shrinking violet, it seems that purple lips are here to stay...

Wearing purple lipstick can be tricky however anyone can do it if you just stick to these three simple rules:

Firstly, find the right shade for your skin tone. As with a red lip, you need to find one with an undertone (blue or red) to compliment yours. This way you will ensure you don't end up looking ill!

Keep things simple by pairing down the rest of your make-up. For daily wear, purple lipstick looks best with a slick of winged eyeliner and a fresh and flawless skin.

Remember purple comes in a multitude of shades; from deep, dark and sultry plum to near fuchsia or soft lavender. If you feel that you can't push to a violent purple, try wearing a much gentler hue.

Here are my Top Five non-toxic purple lipsticks ...

Abraca-Bam from Lippy Girl

I'm striking out boldly with this one. Abraca-Bam is a vivid purple that for most won't be first choice for daily wear but if you are looking for a fun shade for an evening out then this has to be it! If you haven't come across them, Lippy Girl are produced using organic and wild crafted ingredients and are vegan friendly and gluten free.

Amazed Lip Tint from Kjaer Weis

In the words of its creator Kirsten Kjaer Weis, Amazed is an editorial funky lilac. The super sheer, blue toned formula is flattering for pretty much everyone and isn't nearly as daunting on the skin as it appears in the compact.

Royal Lip Shine from RMS Beauty

This isn't quite as scary as it looks. Yes it's purple but there is a definite pink undertone that really shines through - and looks great with a tan! Another plus is that is totally build-able so it can be worn as a soft tint or layered up for more of an impact. Will HRH Kate be wearing this on her first official outing for following the birth of baby Charlotte? Probably not, but you can wear this lip shine with regal pride!

Ilia Beauty in Ink Pot

A fabulous rich violet that is a real show stopper and I adore it. With a creamy, semi-matte finish, this stunning shade reminds me (when on the lip) a little of MAC Rebel. Another purple shade that would suit almost anyone, if you like a deep lip the it is totally wearble day or night. Ink Pot is limited edition so grab yourself a tube now!

Violet High Pigment Pencil from Bite Beauty

I love a Bite beauty High Pigment Pencil and this vibrant lavender purple is one that has made it onto my must-have list. A warm purple that would suit most skin tones, the casing is a little deceptive as the contents isn't as vibrant as you may imagine.

Do you dare wear a purple lip? If so, what's your favourite shade?
