Top Five: In Flight Make-up Tips

With holidays on the horizon, here is the second of my Top Five tips to travel skincare and make-up...

Wearing make-up during a long haul flight is a cardinal sin, one akin to wearing a full face to the gym; not only can 12 hours in recirculated air leave your make-up looking patchy and stale but your skin certainly will not thank you in any way shape or form.

Some people are just not comfortable leaving the house without full make-up and would certainly not entertain flying to the other side of the world without it and it is with this in mind that I have put together a list of my Top Five in flight make-up tips...

Swapsies
Swap out your usual foundation for a tinted moisturiser or BB cream. These hydrating creams will provide much needed moisture during the flights whilst giving you the added benefits of a little colour and coverage. Living Nature Tinted Moisturiser and Suki Tinted Active Moisturiser are amongst my favourites.

Resist Waterproofing
Tinting your eyelashes and then curling them with a pair of lash curlers will help avoid the need for mascara but if tinting isn't an option then choose a non-waterproof mascara. Mascaras formulated without water-resistant ingredients are kinder on the eyes and less likely to cause itchy, sore eyes. I love the Lash Defining formula from RMS Beauty and Dr Hauschka's Natural Mascara.

Tint and Hydrate
Opt for a tinted lip balm over lipstick or gloss. This will keep the delicate skin on your lips hydrated whilst giving colour payoff and it can be reapplied whenever you feel your lips are drying out. Nudist Colourbalm Stick from W3ll People is a light and super hydrating oil rich formula but if you want the look and feel of a lipstick then go for a Tinted Lip conditioner from Ilia Beauty.

Blushing
Using a cream blush rather than a powder based formulation will give you colour without drying out your skin. Cream Blushers make your skin look fresher and can easily be reapplied just before you land to pep up tired faces. Kjaer Weis Cream Blush and Vapour Beauty's Aura Multiuser Blush are great cream products; the former doubles as a lip colour and a small slither of the latter can be cut off and stored in an small pot, so both will save valuable space (empty compact lense pots are great for this!).

Perk Yourself Up!
After a long flight it is all too common to look tired and heavy eyed. Before you leave the plane apply a dot of highlighter to the inner corners of the eyes and along the cheek bones to brighten and perk up dull complexions. Living Luminizer from RMS Beauty is fantastic for this, as is INIKA Cosmetics Highlighting Creme.
