This months rummage into the vault of posts past brings to light possibly the only one I have ever written about lip pencils...
INIKA Organic Lip Liner Pencil
An easy to use pencil with a lovely, creamy texture that doesn't make the lips feel unpleasantly dry or caked and doesnt drag or scratch the lip on application. Thanks to both the colour payoff and the wearability, this is type of liner that you can wear or use without feeling the need to apply another product on top such as a lipstick or gloss.
One of the best things about this liner is its staying power, it lasts an extraordinary length of time - even on a serial lip-chewer like me! INIKA have achieved this durability by blending cold pressed plant waxes and oils to natural mineral pigments; making the liners perfect for those days when you need lip colour to last, for example on a bridal make-up or when you simply aren't able to get on set frequently to do touch ups.
The liner is available in four rich, flattering shades; Morroccan Rose (a pink toned rose), Sugar Plum (a light yet soft plum) , Nude Delight (light frosted brown with caramel undertones) and Safari (earthy, warm brown). There is a very slight frostiness to the pencils, however this is understated and doesn't cause bounce-back, just a slight, soft sheen.
As a fun little extra, INIKA have added a pencil sharpener to the lid, which if you are like me and can never find a sharpener when you need one, comes in very handy!

Lip pencils are such a tough nut to crack and very few companies get them right (in my opinion). Pushing aside the few that are simply too soft and squidge into a messy blob when pushed again a lip, the majority are simply too hard and crumble/breakwhen applied or are just scratchy and even hurt!
A lip pencil for me has to be firm but slightly waxy and maintain a point whilst a lip lip is being drawn. Inika lip pencils do this beautifully. The texture is just right, as is the consistency and they produce a fine line without having to constantly resharpen. They are still my pencil of choice when it comes to creating a lip line, they are however not without their faults...
I would love to see the colour range to increase and include some modern shades such a proper, classic red, a bright pink (so few brands so this) and a much deeper burgundy that is suitable for darker lips/lipstick. The existing colours are beautiful on the lip but are not particularly reflective of current trends - the eyeliner pencils on the other hand are amazing in their colour range!
I also wish that they would produce a pencil which does not contain a frostiness and is perfectly matte. I appreciate that ingredients and/or production methods may bring limitations however if it is possible with the eye pencils then it surely must be possible with the lip liners too..?
Inika, if you are reading this then I love your lip pencils but please could you consider expanding the range?
Priced at £13.50 each, the liners may not be the cheapest on the market, but they are worth the spend if budgets allow - and remember, you do get the pencil sharpener too!
