Behind the Brand: Essential Care

I am currently in the beautiful rural countryside of North Suffolk where I was bought up. Having driven up to East Anglia from London this week, combining a family visit with two jobs, I decided that it was the perfect place to write this month's Behind the Brand post as it features local company Essential Care.

With a passion for natural medicine at it's heart, Essential Care began life in 2003, established by Margaret Weeds and her daughter Abi. This small but highly respected family run business has gone from strength to strength, now producing over sixty products and distributed to twenty countries across Europe!

Having been told in the 1960's that there was no future in being a Cosmetic Chemist, Margaret trained in aromatherapy and herbal medicine. Frustrated, and as a result, motivated by the toxic ingredients found in so many conventional beauty products, Margaret set about researching her own Skincare formulations to use on her family's sensitive skins. Using plant oils and organic herbs from her own garden, Margaret's formulations quickly developed into products - many of which are still used to this day.

Essential Care use only the highest quality organic herbs and virgin cold-pressed essential oils to create their range. All of the Essential Care products have a minimum of 95% organic ingredients and are certified organic by the Soil Association, who have amongst the strictest certification criteria in the world - all of which are suitable for vegetarians and many are vegan friendly too!

Not only concerned about what we put onto our skin, Essential Care are also concerned about the environmental impact that results from product manufacturing. By supporting organic farming methods, the impact on wildlife, pollution levels and waste are reduced. Many of the raw materials are sourced locally from sustainable, renewable resources and when this is not an option, have been fairly traded.

I love the majority of the Essential Care products I have tried, however for me (and my blog) the winner is certainly the make-up. The collection is small and the shades are sometimes a little limited but they are great products - the lipstick and concealer are amongst my favourites. Keep your eyes peeled for a couple of posts coming soon!
