Top Five: Foundation Brushes (part 1)

Last month I wrote about my top five Kabuki brushes and in this, the second in my series of top five make-up brushes the spotlight falls on the Foundation brush.

For many years foundation was generally applied with either a sponge (damp or dry, as was your want) or fingers however foundation brushes are currently enjoying a bit of a surge in popularity.

With some many types of foundation and foundation brush now on the market, I am focusing on the brushes best suited for applying liquid or cream foundations and not powder minerals, so if you are one for a powder base then please hang fire and check out next months top five brush post.

Here are my top five foundation brushes...(for liquids and creams)

Louise Young Cosmetics - LY02

This densely packed brush is one of of my favourites for applying a liquid base. Personally I love the long bristles as they fall beautifully into the creases and crevasses around the face ensuring even coverage, however a brush novice may find the length of the taklon bristles a little hard to handle.
I featured the Louise Young brushes in a post last year.

Zoeva - 141 Foundation and Concealer

Why have two brushes when you can have one? This fabulous double ended brush has two paddle shaped heads for concealer and foundation application.

£8.00 from Love Make-up

ELf - Foundation
This is a great lightweight brush perfect for travelling and is a great buy for teenagers or those looking to begin their own brush set. I have a number of these in my teaching kit and love them as they are so hard wearing and at just £1.50 are a complete and utter bargain!

For more information on ELF bamboo brushes, check out my post from last year.

£1.50 from E.L.F

Cozzette - P300 Angled Foundation

A beautifully shaped foundation brush from beauty Make-up Artist Roque Cozzette, ideal for applying cream and liquid bases. The angled bristles make it perfect for stippling product onto the skin to build up coverage or add texture. The handle colour is just an added bonus!

£21.99 from Love Make-up

ECOTOOLS - Flat Foundation

Excellent value for money and widely available ECOTOOLS brushes are a great addition to any brush kit. This lightweight brush makes liquid make-up application easy, giving an even coverage of product.

In early 2012 I wrote about ECOTOOLS brushes as part of my series on brush brands.

£7.99 from Boots
